Nevertheless, April 2023 presents a different scenario, with a release schedule that boasts a plethora of highly-anticipated films from beginning to end. With an exciting month ahead, let's delve into the outstanding films that will be distributed in theaters.

Movies Coming to Theaters in April 2023

Air follows Nike’s creators Phil Knight and Sonny Vaccaro’s attempts at procuring the promising talent of a young Michael Jordan in the 1980s. They hope to lure him in with the concept of corporate synergy, revolutionizing sport, culture, and fashion with the inception of the Air Jordan.

2. Paint – (April 7)
Owen Wilson sports a '70s-style perm in the whimsical comedy Paint, based very loosely on the life of the renowned TV painter, Bob Ross. Carl Nargle, a revered and beloved member of the local community, lands his own art show at the regional television station, and as such, grabs the affections of many women. Soon, his status as an artist and public figure comes under threat.

The screen adaptation of the famous video game, a seminal fantasy-adventure Nintendo story, boasts a stellar ensemble of famous voices. From Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Pratt, to Jack Black and Seth Rogen.

4. Renfield– (April 14)

McKay is sampling a different flavor with his horror comedy movie, Renfield. Starring two Nic's in the titular roles, Cage and Hoult, the movie concerns the life of Dracula’s aide and confidant, who after centuries of practical subjugation, wants to explore the outside world.

The chilling tale documents the actual endeavors of priest and exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth (Crowe) and some of the 100,000 harrowing exorcisms he oversaw during his tenure as the Vatican’s chief exorcist.

This year’s sports biopic, Sweetwater, details the rise of Harlem Globetrotter Nathaniel “Sweetwater” Clifton, who became the first-ever Black player to feature in the NBA, in what was a massive step toward equality for both the civil rights movement and Black America.

As the fifth installment of the supernatural horror franchise, Evil Dead Rise follows Ellie’s (Alyssa Sutherland) efforts at combating the demonic forces that have invaded her apartment block. 

This movie promises to be an all-action affair. Set against the backdrop of the war in Afghanistan, a valorous interpreter assists an injured sergeant across treacherous terrain, risking both their lives in the process, with al-Qaeda, and the Taliban closing in on them.

Stephen Williams’ period piece beautifully illustrates the true story of French-Caribbean violinist, Chevalier de Saint-Georges and his time among the French aristocracy during the 18th century.

10. Beau Is Afraid

Featuring Joaquin Phoenix, the film is a three-hour-long horror-comedy about a paranoid man who sets out on an adventure to return home after his mother’s untimely passing. 

Based on author Judy Blume’s classic novel of the same name, this coming-of-age comedy-drama depicts adolescent Margaret’s journey of self-discovery. As she begins to ask questions about the religious influences around her and the meaning of life. The '70s novel was a mainstay for young women and feminists transitioning out of the more repressive decades of old and into individualized, questioning adults, and the film seems to capture the moment beautifully.

12. Big George Foreman - (April 28)

The biographical drama Big George Foreman portrays the former boxer’s life from a tough upbringing in Texas to Olympic glory, and his life of faith post-boxing.
