This new opportunity launched Ron into the film industry and once again traveling the world coating IMAX screen in preparation for grand openings of IMAX theaters, paving the way for Severtson to create his own company and begin providing screens for cinemas.
Founded in 1986, Severtson has manufactured cinema screens for theaters in countries all over the world, including the United States, Mexico, Canada, Korea, Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, Spain, Germany, France, New Zealand, Australia, Netherlands, Thailand, Scotland, China, Russia, and many more. To meet the challenge of creating extremely large screens, Severtson Corporation designed a robotic spray-arm application system to paint its high-performance optical coating in-house on screens as large as 67.75ft.x 150ft. (20.7m x 45.8m). It is currently the largest in-house cinema screen optical coating system in the world.
Today, with such blockbusters filmed for the cinematic 3D experience such as Avatar: The Way of Water, Severtson continues to lead the way with its silver screens and coatings which help to bring these movies to life.
For passive 3D systems, Severtson Screens offers the traditional silver screen with its SeVision 3D-GX. This was the coating that Severtson originally developed for IMAX. The company has since enhanced this coating so that it can be folded for better shipping and handling. Severtson has also developed an additional passive 3D screen coating known as the SeVision 3D GX-WA. This screen responds more like a white screen offering wider angles and less hot-spotting, and it also provides 3D screens for Active 3D systems. All of Severtson’s 3D screens are available in a broad range of gains and perforation options.
